o.k. so the new season of AI comes on tonight season 9 i believe. so do you think it will be a guy or a girl who will win? what do you think of ellen as a judge. Has anybody else heard that Sarah Palin will replace Simon as a judge AS I DID ON THE NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!! can AI survive without Paula and Simon. Tell me all your opinions as well as if you think Carrie will be making appearance this season.

imo idol will not be the same without Simon.
However, this is a show that has grown in popularity since the start so i dont think the ratings will not suffer

Idol is no longer what it used to be. Before they were all about finding out undiscovered talants but now it just another reality show. I think from season 1-5 it was about the talent, then season 6 onward it became a freak show. Sanjaya started the trend with his hideos hair and it continued. It's still shock me that he got that far, ridiculous. Season 7 was better but season 8 was the worst IMO. I think AI is going down hill regardless of Simon stays or not, but with Simon gone it will go down faster. That's why the winner fail to have commercial success because ppl are no longer voting for who is talent but who is more entertaining to watch for laughs.

I haven't been following AI lately becasue I am somewhat appauled by the ppl that makes the final 12. I am not expecting much this year, I will watch whenever Carrie is on, other than that I won't waste my time.

Also I don't think Paula did much for the show. I didn't like her as a judge because I felt that she was fake. I don't think she like Carrie that much either. She is always favoring the guys. If you look back at her comments toward Carrie after every performace she never raved about her, but as soon as Randy said something not to great then she would pick up on that. I didn'r care for Paula but Simon I will miss..He is so ruthless. But hey, he speaks the truth even if we don't understand him.

AI wil still be the #1 show, rating may not be high, but it will still be #1!!!!!!!!

Honestly, I think it depends on the contestants. If they are likable, people will watch. If not, then they won't.

I am fine with Paula leaving as Ellen is so much better! lol

But Simon leaving the show is a major blow. Ellen will help a little to pick up the slack, but they need someone major to take Simon's place. It will be very hard.

I think ratings will drop next year, but this year they will be pretty good as it is Simon's last year, plus Ellen being on is a big plus.

Next year, I bet the ratings plummet without Simon...unless they bring on someone really big.

I think one of the biggest problems is that people's expectations have got WAY out of control.

The people who are looking for the next "Carrie Underwood" and I am not talking about everything that has happened after she won AI. I am talking about someone who was content on working in the "real world", but just happened to go and give AI a try, then become one of the biggest stars in all of music. The people who expect that every year, should not even bother watching, because AI finding Carrie was a total fluke.

People with the talent that Carrie has and aren't looking to make it in the music business are a once in a lifetime thing. All the other winners outside of Jordin who was a teenager at the time was looking to make a living as singer.

Ha..ha..ha.. you are right -- in a way, Carrie ruins American Idol because Carrie becomes the measurement of success for American Idol winners and that's impossible to duplicate !

I am super excited to see American Idol this year. Although I am sad that Simon is leaving after this year so I hope they do something memorable to end Simon run on the show. I am also excited to see Carrie visit the American Idol stage this season. It will magical to see her perform Temporary Home on the show!

You may be interested to know that due to poor ratings during the last season
Australain Idol has been axed for the foreseeable future.
