The Oklahoma schools issue

As someone who has spent my life working in education (as have other members of my family), I felt a particular connection to this issue. (It was first drawn to my notice by someone in a different artist's fan base, and I didn't want to rush into anything that might be heavily immersed in the party politics of another country - but I'm glad to see that it transcends partisan positions, and is being taken up by many on a cross-party basis). I'm particularly pleased that Carrie and her sisters have taken it up.

You can get a feeling of the severity of the problem in some schools from this article:

(I only knew of Heavener because of the alleged Runestone - there are several of these artefacts, all controversial, and this one is a long way from the proven Norse settlements in Newfoundland. I think the stone has its own park and small museum exhibit - but I'd love to see the small school district, and others like it, get some more attention from the State authorities)

It seems to have had mixed results. There will be some increased spending, financed by taxes on oil and gas (which are being contested by the industry), and by allowing some forms of gambling. But the funding falls short of the demands. The ongoing issue is expected to impact the mid term elections, as the governor & legislature's austerity policy has been unpopular, and some parents are expected to vote on cross-party lines.

They got a raise for next year.....but, the funds my not be there the year after. No, the teachers are still very unhappy with the Govenor and the legislators. May be lots of teachers running for office!!

Wow, that situation is disgraceful. No wonder the teacher's went on strike.

^ Did you see the picture of her two beautiful sisters walking at the Capital? Carrie has donated to make her school in Chacotah first class! I bet she has done things at her sister’s schools too! All the schools in OK aren’t like those aweful pics. Lots are very nice.

Thanks, yes I saw it.

Thanks also for letting me know they aren't all like that. I got the wrong impression from those pictures.
