Ghost Story chart updates

I would disagree. Given how slow Carrie works they would have close to 3 years to get those other songs out and on the radio. No need to pull GS prematurely.

GS remains at #12 (+4/+.207)

Hope you’re right. Cause I want to see all of them as singles. Just don’t know how supportive radio will be of the forth single when it’s released, which will be when the album is nearly two years old

Two things I'm thinking:

1. If GS was testing very well, why such a slow climb?
2. If each single will take this long, I think they will do 4 singles from this album too instead of 5.

Most likely won’t get 5. Some are saying we’ll be lucky if we still get 4. Miranda only went 3 deep with her last era.

I saw an ad on mediabase saying that "New Truck" by Dylan Scott (the song which is at number one) will receive "max spins through 8/7". Does it mean it'll fall fast after that?

We really need GS to start climbing quickly and get to the second single. At this point I'm thinking it'll maybe even be better if it doesn't reach the summit because it'll take two months. #1s at radio don't mean much anyway, especially if a song has got only radio airplay and not much else (sales, streams), as is the case for GS.

I don't understand songs taking longer in top 10 now. People's attention spans are shorter, they consume more at a faster rate...I would think they would want newer music out faster

That’s where the disconnect is. You are right people want new music faster now than they ever have, but country radio is in their own world.

Country radio puts too much stock in testing, in addition to allowing to play songs that aren’t connecting that labels are promoting to appease them (shady money under the table things). To allow nothing songs to have peaks higher than they should. Kind of like what happened with many recent hits like 7500 OBO and Best Things since backroads. These are the main causes of the marathon chart run that we have now.

Those were pushed far beyond their expectation date when not connecting well. And didn’t have business going #1.

^^^ This, then you have these absurd manipulated pushes. What happened to natural progression....

It's pathetic what they play on the local country stations here....

Here too. We used to be fair and balanced but haven’t been in the last ten years. I’ve basically stopped listening unless I’m heading somewhere in my husbands truck. And I have to say those trips would be happier if radio obliged.

Last week’s *massive push to No. 1 song* is losing almost 700 spins daily. If that continues, GS should pass it right on Sunday and end the week at #11.

Next week, Maren’s song will drop equally as fast. GS will easily pass it. Another song above GS is going to go off next Sunday.

GS should end the week next week at #9!

Is everyone gonna like manipulated #1s if Carrie gets the chance to have one, lol?
The thing is, GS wouldn't be a manipulated #1, IMO. Until the log jam happened, it legitimately did very well and tested well. I also don't recall any of Carrie's #1s dropping that hard, tbh. I know Cry Pretty did, but that wasn't #1

I mean it wouldn’t be as manipulated as we’ve seen, but in a way it would be manipulated. Testing can only help a song so much, 7500 OBO and Best Thing Since Backroads both tested good, but didn’t connect good on streaming/sales. Testing can help get a song to #1, but if it’s sales and streams aren’t there, sometimes the push to the finish line feels very forced. Mind you if someone wants a #1 radio does put more stock in testing than sales/ streams, but usually needs both for it to feel natural.

Mind you it’s connecting better on those fronts than those by some, but when you compare it’s chart position on hot country songs, where it takes into account airplay, sales, and streams (20) to its current airplay position, it shows that it’s not connecting the best.

I guess the way I look at it is if they let those other songs go #1 they should let Carrie’s too. I do like when it feels more natural, but in the end if it does get her to the penthouse again, it may feel forced, but I’ll love seeing her at the top. Many mixed feelings.

Well, it likely would be. Once a song is in striking distance it is maxed per the ads, and that is essentially a form of manipulation no matter how you slice it.

And despite CP not being #1 it was manipulated. GS will be as well at some point, just a matter of where.

Well, yeah, I know every song is manipulated, lol. Country radio is a whole 'nother world, and I'm fine with UMG doing a big push for GS like we've seen Carrie have her whole career. I'm fine with any song do it, my initial comment was just basically trying to point out just how hard a certain song was falling as that was a bit unusual/not super common

Yeah, that's exactly how I have felt this whole time. If almost every song pushed to #1 can get it in some way, then so should one that did fairly well (at least better than Cry Pretty).

I'm fine with the push it would take to get GS to the top.
