Carrie Underwood 7- Denim and Rhinestones

Yeah I have the exact same thought! It definitely sounds like a song the guys are singing & even HARDY wrote it. But that’s where me being apprehensive comes in since we know radio has a different standard for men/women. Like southbound was a hit but got blocked on billboard. Whereas if a man sang that it would have easily gotten several weeks at the top
You're contradicting yourself a little. I mean, by those standards it doesn't matter what she releases. At least she's releasing a song you and I both agree radio is playing that takes the males to number one? So, by that standard seems like a good bet it will go as high as possible, and a good shot at number one even if it's blocked by billboard?!

Pretty much. i guess what I mean is, I feel like Carrie has to play it extremely safe to get a radio hit. Storyteller’s singles were all extremely safe and did super well - testing wise and chart wise. My worry is that, while HMH does have a similar concept to men’s songs, it does sound a tiny bit different than what I really hear on radio (which has become very traditional country lately and HMH is a very fun/rocky song). I feel as though jams like “burn” and “crazy angels” are that safer category and are so safe and radio friendly that radio would have no choice but to play them, double standards baked in, like with the storyteller singles. And that’s kind of just what I’ve been saying about a second single choice

Maybe this is all just my anxiety overthinking things and over worrying & analyzing radio about the single choices, so please no one get mad at my posts about all this lol.

Velvet Heartbreak has a much catchier hook in my opinion. The repetitive "right now", jarring rhthym and drawn-out twang in the intonation make Hate My Heart a bit grating for me. But I agree with others that it sounds more like what is currently on radio right now, so I hope it is "as safe a choice as can be found for a woman in country music these days" and that it performs well.

I don't see any reason for anyone to get upset. This is a place where we can all have opinions, discuss, and talk about her music. I too think Burn will be a big hit, but I kinda figured they'd go uptempo for single two, especially since the album was promoted as fun. It is a fun album, but Ghost story isn't the best example of that. With single three I think Burn will be perfect. It will probably peak next fall.

Thank you :) I just always worry if I say the wrong thing I might upset people (especially since many like HMH so much, I do too!) but I hope that never happens as you said it is all just our own opinions

I very much would love “burn” to be #3. If HMH can run from say Nov-April/May, Burn would be a perfect song for June - September and maybe a year from now we will be coming off of its 2-3 weeks at #1 ;) (hoping PC, if a single, is last)

Pick me up is in the top twenty. It is #14, up 3 spots week-to-week, with a bullet of 500. As for Carly, her last song was an #1 and sounded similar in sound
Oh wow I didn’t even realize Gabby’s song was already up to 14! I swear every time I check, it’s just been slowly gaining in the mid-20s. But that’s great to see radio finally coming around to her song.
I actually like that HMH is a little different sounding from those songs. At least it’ll stand out! Hopefully in a better way than GS did lol

Exactly!! I hate all the "right now" more the twangy thing she does. I find it a little annoying.

I just counted and she sing "right now" 15 times 😅🤣🤣 that should be the name of the song lol kidding but a radio edit would be great. 😌

LOL! When I heard HMH during the first weeks of album release, the "right now"s actually reminded me of BHC's "right now"s, which also led me to thinking that HMH can be a continuation to BHC's story.. if HMH is the next single, it'll be cool if it continues from BHC... so it's like LN -> BHC -> HMH

Considering Carrie's from rural Oklahoma, it probably is natural.
True. But an artist makes choices on every song. If Carrie wasn't able to "turn it on and off", she would sound the same on every song. She certainly has never been accused of that. On "Choctaw County Affair", the twang and production seem natural and appropriate - they complement the song's impact and the production is legendary. The same can be said for "Smoke Break" to some extent. I just think it doesn't work as well on Hate My Heart. But I will support it no matter what.

I think the twang on HMH is fine but I can understand your point. I also believe if the production was totally different the twang would also work better. Maybe you might say it doesn’t work with such a loud song?

GS did nothing to move the sales of the album. Hitting Top 10 on radio play doesn't translate to sales or streaming anymore. She needs to release a song that is more fresh and interesting, not just merely trying to get another Top 10.

Surprised that guy just name dropped the song Carrie was filming for like that, but it doesn't necessarily sound like he was part of the shoot. Performance footage makes me wary, and given that YouTube views have been declining I can only assume Carrie's team isn't interested in investing any more into the next music video than her recent ones.

I can understand HMH being picked as a single, though it's also the only song on the album that I find annoying and am more likely to skip than not. If they're going upbeat for single #2 I would have liked any of PC, VH, or CA over HMH, but each has their merit. HMH also has the most streams of the non-promo songs on Spotify.

The only song I find myself skipping is Faster, and it's not because I don't like it, it's because of where it is. Go from HMH, Burn, CA, and I'm not ready so slooooow down yet, so I skip to PC. I usually go back to it after Garden. If I'm going to listen to the album straight through I think I would have preferred it after SDK, but that's just a silly little weird thing I've noticed when I'm listening while cleaning, working out etc.

GS will be a song that will be fun to hear when she breaks it out for concerts later on down the road…gotta see the positives
