Just popped in to say if Carrie goes back to the sound she had during Some Hearts and Carnival Ride I think the new album would be massive.

Carrie needs to start writing with her dream team consisting Zach Crowell, Brett James, Hillary Lindsey, Chris DeStefano.

I also love how EUWY was written and produced. It has a modern, pop sounding country. She might want to consider writing with Will Weatherly who actually co-wrote the song. Not forgetting Max Martin and Shellback too.

Anyway, it seems like she might be going back to her country rock sounding that is similar to Church Bells and Dirty Laundry. Cry Pretty might just be a one off experimental kind of album that she was just trying to explore music outside her comfort zone. I'd definitely love her to do some "girlfriend country" kind of songs as well.

Based on the tracks from Cry Pretty album, she should just avoid making songs like Low, Spinning Bottle, Kingdom, Southbound, Love wins and Drinking Alone. These are not really radio friendly songs and resonate well in today's music climate.

Complete opposite to you. Zach Crowell needs to stay far away from her. And songs like "Low", "Spinning Bottles" and "Drinking Alone" are among the best most acclaimed songs she's ever released. Radio is dead and Carrie doesn't need them at this point, so I truly hope she doesn't pander to them just for a hit.

That is excluding a wide range of sounds two of which I would consider radio friendly. Low, Spinning Bottles, Drinking Alone (and Cry Pretty) are some of the strongest songs in her catalog and are the type of songs she should keep trying to push her self to write. She always does a good job balancing radio friendly material with material she does not expect to be single material.

At this point I just want new music from her because I'm truly excited for what comes next, no matter what direction she goes musically.

As a complete side note, I think Spinning Bottles with a true video treatment could've been resonated really well. Don't know or care how radio would treat it, but I believe it would've had its own type of success. I love that she chose it to sing at the AMA's and cruise.

I just wish she would promote to AC radio instead of country only. She gets screwed over time and time again just promote to hot AC and pop stations. I think songs like Spinning Bottles, cry pretty, low, backsliding would be massive hits on hot AC radio

We may be very frustrated with radio, and rightfully so, but I think it would be a mistake to underestimate its importance or relevance - especially while we continue to struggle with streaming. If we were hitting it out of the park with streaming, it would be much easier to ignore radio, but if we want Carrie's music to continue to be heard by large audiences and celebrated by mainstream, we should continue to root for radio success. I know it isn't a fair playing field for female artists, but it does matter to remaining relevant and sustaining a vibrant career. I believe that Carrie can still stretch herself artistically and produce material that resonates on radio. While more challenging than it was before, I believe she can continue to find a balance.

I agree. I think she can achieve that balance in her albums. (From a purely personal point of view, I think her first four singles were both among the best tracks on the album (and still among the best of her career), and did demonstrate that art and popularity can thrive together . I enjoyed CR, but have to say that the singles, despite a strong start with SS, for the most part, did less for me. PO, though, has been the only album era where I thought there was some real risk that relatively few songs overall were showing Carrie at her best potential. Since then, I think the album eras have steadily built up that reputation for thoughtful, musically varied, innovative and strongly themed songs. My reaction to the singles has tended to be rather mixed - some I felt were spot on, others I felt were weaker than many of the tracks left on the album - but I am more of an album fan, and much less focused on radio than many others in the fan base.)

Personal tastes, though are bound to vary. What Carrie has to do is continue striving for that balance that you mention - and I think we're lucky in the success she's had in both areas. Her consistency in achieving that is arguably greater than that of most of her contemporaries, male or female. And if the commentary that she receives sometimes tends to play down or overlook the care she puts into the artistic planning and delivery of her best songs, I think much of that is a side effect of the commercial success she's had. Some commentators see the latter, and don't pursue the need to look more fully into the former.

While I agree with Adam that radio is declining, and that its shortcomings may be a handicap to an artist wanting to show her best work - I also agree with you that Carrie's career path and the preferences of her fan base mean that she shouldn't give up on radio until she virtually has to (and I don't think that's the case yet).

(Coincidentally, Miranda Lambert has been discussing this issue in a couple of long interviews recently. I posted the links in her thread a few days ago, if anyone's interested - but basically she was admitting that she has difficulty in picking singles, and has always had patchy radio support, but that her fan base is not overly preoccupied with radio charts, and her career success has mainly rested on touring and albums. However, although those have given her consistent critical approval, she doesn't believe that is enough for long term genre memorable status - an artist needs both, and one is only half of the equation.)

I'd love her to get #1s, but I'm realistic. The frequency will be much less, and we've seen with this era that she's still hugely successful with less radio success. In the next era they need to target streaming harder and radio about what they did this time around. I think just looking at the top song on radio's audience should tell us it's impact. Just a few years ago the top song on Billboard would be around 50 million+ in audience, and over 60 million on Mediabase. Now the top song on Billboard is below 40 million. That's a massive drop in a short time. I agree though we need to up streaming, that's where people will hear the song more and more. And if she sent a great song to radio, I'd definitely root for it to go #1, but I don't want her to send a crappy song to radio just so they play it, that'd be sad.

I just stumbled across this article even though it isn’t super recent. Could this somehow limit David Garcia’s ability to work with Carrie on her next album since Spirit Music Nashville is independent and Carrie has no association with them? I was trying to google it and I noticed that there are former UMG employees who then went to work for this Spirit Music Group. They were advertising how David worked with Carrie on Southbound though so idk.

So I’ve seen some things floating around on twitter saying US officials believe concerts won’t be safe until Fall 2021 so maybe this will give Carrie the time she needs to write a new album and then go on another kick butt tour!

I feel like Carrie has probably been working somewhat on new album stuff, considering the fact that it already seems like she had been doing some co-writing before the social distancing started. If fall 2021 is true, then I guess all of her fall concerts for this year will be moved then too.

Maybe she will cancel it or include these dates for a new album tour.

^ the only things she had scheduled this year beyond the casino date in March were fairs and festivals

That seems a little long, but I guess it all depends on how long it takes to get a vaccine, and to be able to identify how to treat and contain the virus in the next wave. Hopefully, it is nowhere near that long, and life can at least start to come back to normal throughout the year.

If concerts are really pushed back that long I think it'd be a really good idea for her to do a Christmas album this year. She could still do some promo but wouldn't need to tour
