The Highwomen were the big winners at this year's AMAs. They won Album of the Year and Duo/Group of the Year, and one of their tracks, "Crowded Table" (which Brandi & Natalie wrote with Lori McKenna), won Song of the Year.

John Prine (who sadly passed away earlier in the year) was named Artist of the Year

Britanny Haas won Instrumentalist of the Year (Brittany is a traditional fiddler. She plays a five string fiddle, with the fifth string tuned to the C below the other strings - a difficult instrument, somewhere in sound between a standard fiddle and a viola)

Finally, I'd like to give a shout to one of our home girls over here, Kerry Fearon, who won Best Pure Country Album at the Academy of Western Artists, earler in the year, for her album "Honky Tonk Girl". The Academy of Western Artists hold an award show in Fort Worth every year, concentrating on forms of Country Music now largely ignored by the Nashville Mainstream. It is rare, and a considerable tribute for a new artist from the British Isles to be honored there.
