Apples in The Fall
Sebastopol, CA used to be knows for the Gravestein Apple, there is an Apple Blossom Parade, a Gravestein Fair, every street is named after redwoods, gravenstiens and pines. Shortly after my family and I moved there when I was about 8, the entire apple industry was bought out be a competitor and all of the orchards were left to rot right before harvest. The industry instantly died, and though the town is still there, and still quaint and welcoming, it lost a big part of it’s identity going through a huge loss of industry, and even ‘tll this day is struggling to recover. I was in my parents home in Sebastopol, visiting from Alaska when I wrote this song, in a surprising rush of homesickness. This song is as much about losing the apple industry as it is about losing my own childhood identity… which I would say is also struggling to recover

Hotter than Hades
I recently found my first work tape of this song, and was simultaneously surprised and heartbroken at how long ago I wrote it. In a world of Tinder its hard to remember its not all just a game. Everyone has different rules, and I wanted to take the stigma off women who are shamed by other women for seemingly no good reason.Sometimes being the life of the party is the loneliest place of all.

Do You Miss Me Yet
I started to write this song in the Austin,TX airport, I was lucky enough to have some friends invite me to stay, and while there struck up a little romance and stayed a month longer than intended. It crossed my mind to just stay, but there’s something about whirlwind romances, the magic is that they were always intended to end, and when they do it’s a special kind of torture. Some might call it bittersweet…I think that’s BS, it’s def torture.

Bitter Bones
This is one of the first songs I ever write, in fact it might actually haves been the second. I moved away from home at a young age looking for something exciting, or at least different than than small California town I grew up in my first post Dorm apartment in Spenard Rd. in Anchorage Alaska, behind the Wonderbread factory, walking through the snow possibly being late due to live moose blocking my trail, just trying to make it to get to my coffee shop job by 7am.

I wrote this song to my mom, trying to explain why I left. It was quite a few years before she actually heard it. This song didn’t make the cut of the first album, it was too long and just didn’t fit. i’m happy to share it now.

Beer in jars
I decided to include this song because I truthfully just enjoy playing it, and since it was written it has grown into my songwriting catalog, as one of those songs I couldn’t tell you where, when, or why I wrote it, but continues to be a set-list staple.

I think this one may not have been chosen for the CBS network spectacular (but as is often the case with compilations selected with a TV general audience in mind, some of the pre-show contributions can outshine some of those picked for the evening broadcast). I think this is certainly one that deserves wider notice. Caylee is signed to Carrie's label, and has been touring with Miranda. She is sharing an ACM nomination for Musical Event of the Year.

I haven't posted on the board much because I was taking some time off for myself even though I have been regularly checking for updates. There are so many updates on women in country music that I did not post over the past several weeks but I'll try to post something soon enough.

For now, after a long time, here are the women on the chart:

#2 Gabby Barrett - "I Hope"
#3 Gwen Stefani (with Blake Shelton) - "Nobody But You"
#5 Ingrid Andress - "More Hearts Than Mine"
#9 Carly Pearce and Lee Brice - "I Hope You're Happy Now"
#10 Maren Morris - "The Bones"
#14 Carrie Underwood - "Drinking Alone"
#21 Miranda Lambert - "Bluebird"
#22 Maddie & Tae - "Die From a Broken Heart"
#27 Reba McEntire & Hilary Scott (with Thomas Rhett) - "Be a Light"
#29 Ashley McBryde - "One Night Standards"
#30 Gone West - "What Could've Been"
#37 Lauren Alaina (with Hardy) - "One Beer"
#39 Lauren Alaina - "Getting Good"
#40 Runaway June - "Head Over Heels"

Lauren Alaina's "Getting Good" might start falling off since her feature with a guy is getting more spins. If that happens, it's sad because I want her to find success for her solo material as well. She has a very good reputation in the industry and fellow artists have praised her a lot. As country critic Grady Smith has also pointed out, she has recently been the go-to girl for duets/features. Let's see. I hope she can find a place with both songs on the chart.

Apart from that, I'm happy that Carly Pearce, Ashley McBryde, Runaway June and Maddie & Tae are steadily rising up the chart. I can't remember such a steady climb for so many women at the same time from recent years. It would be wonderful if Mickey Guyton joins them on the chart with her incredible new songs "What Are You Gonna Tell Her?"

And she is another one of the females that totally admires and looks up to Carrie.......

Mickey Guyton is very talented artists. She has beautiful voice. With her talent and sweet girl next door personality if they would push her hard like they do bro country guys I think she would be popular.

I don't understand why she didn't get the support she should've gotten. She came out at a time when supporting new female artists was at an absolute low. If she would have come out today, maybe there would be more press and publicity about her because despite not receiving airplay, women are getting attention these days. Ingrid Andress and Gabby are quoted so often. Caylee Hammack is seen frequently too.

Just jumping in here to share some great albums from female country artists that came out this year that I am really enjoying:

Brandy Clark’s Your Life Is A Record - as always she is amazing and the instrumentation on this album is beautiful. It’s a break up album. Here’s a taste - Pawn Shop: https://youtu.be/ZtZM28iWEyM
Hailey Whitters’ The Dream - she is new to me but I love this album. I love this track - Janice At The Hotel Bar: https://youtu.be/2NFRF5IoHC4
Jessi Alexander’s Decatur County Red - she is new to me too and I love this album too. Here is a taste - I Should Probably Go Now: https://youtu.be/Axn2fS8Kxg0

I am late to Erin Enderlin but I really like her last two albums. Here is a taste - Broken: https://youtu.be/BRFSPSdyqcU
I am very late to Emily Scott Robinson but love her album from last year Taveling Mercies. This song is heartbreaking but beautifully written and delivered (beware - May be triggering to sexual assault survivors) - The Dress: https://youtu.be/GYyxAqY84h0

Great to see Warner Nashville chose "The Stranger for the next single for Ingrid Andress. It may not be so radio friendly but it so well written....

#39 Lauren Alaina - "Getting Good"
#46 Runaway June - "Head Over Heels"
*NEW* Tenille Arts - "Somebody Like That"

Notes and personal observations:
- Gabby, Gwen and Ingrid all hit #1 in previous weeks.
- M&T, Ashley McBryde seem to have a hit on their hands (I can see them reaching the Top 10 easily); Carly will probably hit #1
- RJ, with the departure of Hannah from the group, see their single falling now (which is sad because it was a great song)
- Gone West have been hanging on for many many weeks. I think it might remain on the chart for a few more weeks but probably won't go beyond #20
- Miranda will most likely hit #1 with "Bluebird". It's gained high praise from fans, critics and peers alike.
