I’m watching Darkest Hour, Katie....is the second half of the movie about Dunkirk?!? Lmao how ironic that two movies about that are coming out same year

Edit-

Darkest Hour- I tried guys. I really tried to get into it. I just. Theres just so many WWII movies that focus on the political side. And Churchill. I just thought it was okay. These movies always seem to involve a lot of yelling lol. And of course my favorite scene in the movie (the underground subway trip) I researched and that was fictionalized. LOL. Its def my least favorite in the Best Picture Nominees. Oldman is very very good as Churchill. But I prefer DDL and Chalamet in that category. Even though Oldman will win

Best Picture Ranking-

1) Lady Bird
2) Phantom Thread
3) Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri
4) Call Me By Your Name
5) Dunkirk
6) The Shape of Water
7) The Post
8) Get Out
9) Darkest Hour

I can recognize that Lady Bird is not the best out of that group but for personal reasons its my favorite. I have to say. My top 5, I do actually like all those movies a lot. Its so weird that it seems like an underwhelming award season but I still liked almost all the movies nominated

Roman J Israel, Esq.- I understand why this movie as a whole didnt get more attention. Its really all over the place. I felt like, tonally, it didnt know what it wanted to be. So to talk about what actually got nominated. Denzel. I think he does his best in a muddled script. He is def what made the movie watchable. I have seen Disaster Artist yet but I do have a feeling if the situation with Franco hadn't happened he would have been nominated instead of Denzel. I think I would still put Denzel ahead of Hanks though for the nomination.

Best Actor-

1) Timothee Chalamet
2) Daniel Day Lewis
3) Gary Oldman
4) Daniel Kaluuya
5) Denzel Washington

We all know Oldman is gunna take this one. Honestly, Him and Kaluuya are probably interchangeable on my list. Im going to try and tackle The Disaster Artist tonight and then All The Money in the World tmw. I really give 0 focks about the animated category. The only one i want to actually see is The Breadwinner so maybe I can fit that in on saturday.

I've been thinking about the acting categories so much that I forgot that there are other fields to close. Don't think I can get to much before Sunday. I'm curious about the animated Van Gogh movie.

I have closed picture, director and both female actor categories. Need to watch Blade runner before I get to Blade runner 2049

The Disaster Artist- Id like to start this by saying I told a friend I wasn't really into the movie when I was watching it, and she said to truly appreciate it you have to see The Room. Which i assumed. However I never did see it. Ive only heard about how horrible it is for years and years. I will say TDA made me slightly MORE interested in seeing it than I was before I watched it. I have a hard time with this movie overall. I think the theme it was trying to get across was to never give up on your dreams and you can achieve anything. Which is a sentiment I can appreciate it butttttt.....Tommy was a complete jerk. Like to his best friend and cast and crew. The movie didnt make me root for him to succeed at all. In the end I'm just kinda mad that he's independently wealthy and was able to finance his own movie. I think James was okay. Im fine with him not being nominated. I don't think Dave Franco is a good actor at all. Idk. This is a movie where you WANT to root for the underdog but he's actually an @sshole so you don't. And like I said I never saw the original movie so I couldn't appreciate that aspect of it.

Best Adapted Screenplay-

1) Call Me By Your Name
2) Logan
3) Molly's Game
4) Mudbound
5) The Disaster Artist

Also. There are three documentaries that are nominated that are currently on Netflix. I might try and knock a couple of those out since i refuse to close Animated.

Well crap....All the Money in the World isn't available in something other than Cam. guess I'm not closing that category out

I mean. I don't think this is necessary -

2018 Oscars: Warren Beatty, Faye Dunaway to Present Best Picture Again | TVLine

Edit-

The Breadwinner- Now if you're looking for an uplifting animated film have i got a suggestion for you.....dont watch this. My god was this depressing. That being said. I mean. It was a well done movie. I just need to sit with it for a hot second. I mean its one of those animated movies where it has to be a movie for adults right? But then I think about how it kind of reminds me of Mulan and thats a kids movie, then again that also had music in it and this one doesn't really have any type of uplifting-ness. I need to watch a comedy now to cheer myself up.

I think it's quite possible that Blade Runner 2049 has surpassed Phantom Thread for my favorite film of the year. The movie is obviously beautifully shot by Villeneuve and Deakins does exceptional work and really all of the techs are top notch. I would've given it far more in terms of Oscar nominations. But I love the existential questions and postulations of this future society, and I think it's handled really well in 2049 (I only just saw the original Blade Runner right before I watched this one). I think this movie should've gotten an Editing nod; it's almost 3 hours long and I was engaged the whole time. I have more thoughts but I'm finding it hard to articulate them. Anyway, I loved it.

My preferences:

Best Cinematography
1.Blade Runner 2049
2.Dunkirk
3.The Shape of Water
4.Mudbound
5.Darkest Hour

Best Sound Editing/Mixing
1.Baby Driver
2.Star Wars: The Last Jedi
3.Blade Runner 2049
4.Dunkirk
5.The Shape of Water

These are admittedly amateur rankings because even though I know academically the difference between the two, I'm just not a good judge. So I've combined them, lmao.

Best Production Design
1.Blade Runner 2049
2.Darkest Hour
3.Beauty and the Beast
4.The Shape of Water
5.Dunkirk

I also saw Black Panther, which is pretty great. I could see this being an awards contender next year. Michael B. Jordan, Andy Serkis and Letitia Wright are the acting standouts.

Very late to the party but I finally saw 3 Billboards. It was incredible. It was incredible. So rooting for it to win now.

Interviewer to Saoirse- “you didn’t want to watch lady bird until you were able to watch it with your mother”

Saoirse- “that’s actually not true”

LOL awkward

Is there a good streaming link? I went to the dubaione site and they're showing some Drew Barrymore movie and doesn't list the Oscars on its schedule.
