2013 Special Olympics World Winter Games: Lauren Alaina is an Ambassador

The 2013 Special Olympics World Winter Games will be held in Pyeongchang 평창, Gangwon 강원 Province, the Republic of Korea from January 29th through February 5th. (This is also the place to host the Winter Olympic Games in 2018)

I am happy that Lauren Alaina is a Special Olympics Project UNIFY® Ambassador for North America. She has already gone to the Republic of Korea. Article: Lauren Alaina Becomes Special Olympics Project UNIFY® Ambassador

Unlike the International Olympic Committee (IOC) which has 5 continental committees, the Special Olympics has 7 continental regions

-Middle East & North Africa: this region includes 22 Arab League member states plus Iran (geographically Comoros is not a part of the region)

-Africa: this region is designed for the countries located in Sub-Saharan Africa (excluding Arab states), but currently there are only 19 countries to join it

-Latin America: this region is designed for 18 Spanish/Portuguese-speaking countries in the Americas plus Puerto Rico

-North America: this region is designed for 50 US states (including Hawaii in Asia-Pacific), Canada, Belize and the countries and territories in the Caribbean and South America which don't belong to the region "Latin America"

-Europe and Eurasia: this region is designed for Europe (including Russia, Turkey, Cyprus), Central Asia and Israel. The territory of Kosovo also joins this region. In addition, the whole Great Britain has a common team. This region might include Mongolia

-Asia Pacific: this region is designed for the countries/territories in South Asia (including Afghanistan), Southeast Asia, Australia, Pacific Islands and Japan.

-East Asia: this region is designed for all the parts claimed by China and the Korean peninsula. Geographically, East Asia (including Mongolia) is a part of Asia-Pacific but I don't know why Special Olympics separates it from this region
