She needs to get back out there.

^Exactly..No album, no single, minimal promo. Id say that is great. Besides, that number is just for PO. And for an album that is two years old with no single, Id say that is great

I'm not worried about Our Girl. When her single comes out and then her album and tour...Carrie is going to EXPLODE!! Get ready CF...we won't be able to keep up here, there will be so much to read and comment on. It won't be that much longer!!

I cant believe Taylor is number 2 I didn't think she had a great year with album sales? Whateverr, its good that Carrie's still included even though she didn't do much this year, next year Im sure the 4th album will be way up top! It'll have a good part of the year to sell a ton of albums

Carrie has absolutely nothing to worry about. She has had little promo this year, no new single, and none of her side projects/duets were very heavily promoted. "Play On" is two years old & it has sold 2 million copies. Considering the label didn't pick great singles (personally, I think MS & UI were the weakest of her career), and the promo was very low-key, she has a lot to be proud of.

It's rare for any artist to reach platinum these days, let alone double platinum. The fact that Carrie's team botched half the era, yet Carrie was still able to garner the kind of sales and attention she did with "How Great Thou Art," "Walk This Way," the "Mama's Song" and "Temporary Home" videos and so on, she has done extremely well. Carrie basically kept her name out there because of her amazing performances this year; her team had absolutely nothing to do with the attention she received, and she should be proud of herself for that. If anything, she has proven her talent alone can keep people interested in her. Promo helps, but in Carrie's case I really do believe it's her talent and passion for her music that draws people to her. As long as she can keep the kind of positive attitude and work ethic, everything else will fall into place.

Of course Carrie knows she needs to get back out there, but let's have a little faith in her guys. She knows what she's doing, and she knows how to draw people to her through her talent and personality. She's not one of those artists who has to worry about coming back after a dry spell. She has all the tools to come back whenever she's ready because she has the natural ability. If she wants to take time to make the album the best it can be, I don't see why there would be a lot to complain about. A lot of artist put music out in the same cycle just so they can please the labels and the fans can have the music. Considering the music industry is so cut-throat, I assume it takes a heck of a lot of guts and passion to go off track and say you're going to do things the way you want.

I know we're all dying for new music, but can we give Carrie a little more credit? She's doing the album the way she wants to, and ultimately she's doing so because she wants to give us, her fans, the best album possible. She's not doing it to "torture" us or to make us wait because she doesn't want to be out there. She loves to perform, write, and sing onstage; I have no doubt she will make this album the best it can be, and we are the ones who will be rewarded the end. How can you not respect any artist who wants to give the fans the best product she can, instead of just rushing it to make more money? Carrie has proven she comes back stronger than ever after an extended quiet period. Remember during the PO era when some of you were worried about the same thing? She ended being just fine, and she gave us a successful album and tour (which was the best so far), and she gave us so many moments to remember.

Carrie has never let us down, and we know she's working hard to bring us the best album she can, and she is saving up her energy to bring us the best version of herself she can, both physically and emotionally. I'm sure she has done lots of maturing during this downtime with Mike, and even though it's not fun now, it'll pay off in the end. Carrie is going to come back stronger than ever in every way possible, because just as we have missed her, I'm sure she has missed doing what she loves. I think this absence will allow her to bring a whole new level of passion and energy to her career that we have never seen from her before, and I can't wait.

What a wonderful and mature post. I am impressed with the way you expressed yourself considering you are way younger than us. Well said and I am totally with you.

Not bad for no album this year.

Definitely not bad for being the tail end of the album era. The last single ended at the beginning of the year, and Play On still sold 184k. That's 1/3 of Gold and more than many artists. Frankly, Carrie is one of the best Country selling artists, albums and tracks. Even in this down year (2011), Carrie has managed to sell a few million tracks also. I find it amazing that some of Carrie's tracks continues to get 100k-250k per year in sales (e.g. BHC, UI, CC). Even the latest TH sales number surprised me as someday that may get Platinum... something I would not have guessed.

Awesome post. :) I hope you are right. I have confidence in Carrie but just lost some faith in the industry and her label due to the snubbing for eoty and other awards etc. But hopefully they finally go back to supporting Carrie again this era.

I cant believe Taylor is number 2 I didn't think she had a great year with album sales? Whateverr, its good that Carrie's still included even though she didn't do much this year, next year Im sure the 4th album will be way up top! It'll have a good part of the year to sell a ton of albums

The Billboard year starts in November, so there's a good portion of holiday sales for "Speak Now" (Thanksgiving inclusive) included there.

Taylor Swift stands at #12 if you're looking at 2011 Canlender Year's Albums sales in the US, as of to date. It has sold 764,766 copies for the year so far.

Didn't they change the Billboard year dates last year? They held the Billboard awards in May I think, instead of November like normal. They started a new Billboard year calendar that ends in like March or something.

Was that a one year glitch? Or is it permanently changed now?

They never changed the Billboard years. The Billboard Music Awards were calculated in the 'year' you're speaking of but year-end charts and Billboard years are not changed. Taio Cruz's "Dynamite" won Song of the Year for Billboard Music Awards but Ke$ha's "TiK ToK" will always remain as the #1 Billboard single for 2010.

Why would they do that? If they calculated the billboard year for a different period just to make the award show in May, it is not an accurate reading of the real Billboard calender year-- and the awards were therefore not accurate.

The Year end charts obviously remain the same for the calendar year-- but the Billboard awards were based on the new Billboard year they calculated.

So the Billboard award winners were therefore not really accurate at all. I am just wondering if they will do the same thing in 2012 and use the March- March calendar year for determining Billboard award winners?

No, the Billboard year-end charts are always according to Billboard years. That particular Billboard Music Awards created an award period itself, which I don't know whether they'll repeat next year.

There are multiple possible reasons for them to do it:

1. There are a lot of award shows around the end and the beginning of each years, so they'd like to avoid competitions;

2. If the BMAs last year awards the awards according to their year-end charts, everyone will already know the winners, and hardly anyone will watch the show (which was basically why it got cancelled a few years ago);

3. If they change the Billboard year to the award period from now on, nobody will care about their year-end charts anymore...

Just like every other award show, there's always an award period...

It makes no sense to change the billboard year just for one year though.

Now it will be odd to calculate the upcoming billboard awards since last years billboard year ended in late march 2011. So will the back date ut to november to get back to the old charts? If so then some months will be counted twice once for last year and once for this year. That is not fair.

Ie all sales from november 2010 through march 2011 were already included in mays billboard award calculations. Awards were given out.

So if they now go back to november to november then all ssles frim november 2010 to march 2011 will count twice on 2 different charts which makes no sense.

People already won awards in may 2011 based on the chart ending march 2011. So they cannot include those months twice.

^^Well tee, it seems since they made up a chart year last year for their awards Billboard can do whatever it wants. If they want to count some months again my bet is they do it.Seems all they really want to do is get a special on air at some point during the year.Doesn't really matter who, what ,when ,where or why.The awards are kind of absurd and meaningless.
