Is the Party Over at Country Radio? - Billboard

A Billboard article on the possible change in country music's direction at country radio starting this fall:

https://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/country/8530509/country-music-serious-songs-singles-radio

Some serious songs are mentioned that are departure from radio's reliance on feel-good music.

- Craig Morgan - "The Father, My Son and the Holy Ghost" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ce5I8f95WEA (this is heartbreaking!)
- Chris Young - "Drowning"
- Eric Church - "Monsters"
- Luke Combs - "Even Though I'm Leaving"
- Justin Moore - "The Ones That Didn't Make It Back Home"
- Riley Green - "I Wish Grandpas Never Died"
- Tenille Townes - "Jersey on the Wall" (the only female artist mentioned in the article)
- Vince Gill's new album Okie that tackles topics like racial and political division, teen pregnancy, religion and sexual abuse

Is there no middle ground? Nothing here that would entice me to listen to a country radio station again. There is enough sorrow in real life; however, I don't want to drown it in country booze and sex in the back of a pickup truck, either.

Trends in music are always changing so this is no surprise. I wonder how Blake Shelton thinks about his own party songs, then.

I find it a bit coincidental that these songs are out at the sametime(except for justin moore which has already peaked), and i would be shocked if Craig Morgan or Tenille Townes sniff the top 20. Eric Church, Chris Young, and Riley Green will all at least get top 10 or 15, the only absolute lock for #1 here is Luke Combs. I don't think there's any big shift about to happen.
