E! has developed a new series with American idol producer Nigel Lythgoe called Opening Act. the show, which promises no auditions, no judges, no eliminations and no competitions finds the amateur performers via their online videos and then once chosen, these artists go to a 'performance boot camp.' Each participant will get a one-night-only performance that could make or break their career.
The twist to this show, which features an artist development team of Fall Out Boy founder and label head Pete Wentz, singer/songwriter Jason Derulo, producer Antonia Armato and vocal coach Nick Cooper are joined by Platinum country star Martina McBride as the 'artist development team' that will prepare the amateur performers to play as an opening act for artists like Brad Paisley, Jason Aldean, Nicki Manaj, Rod Stewart, LMFAO, Jason Mraz, and Gym Class Heroes, amongst others.
The twist of the series is that the artists aren't even aware of their participation/consideration until they're surpassed by the host of the show, Olivia Lee, with the news. Opening Act premieres Monday, July 9 at 10pm ET/PT on E!
