'Cry Pretty' chart updates

^ I don't think it has anything to do with people getting the single instantly when pre order the album because The Champion should be climbing as well and is not happening.

I think people are just seeing CP the album up for pre order and is like free promo for the single.

The sad harsh reality is that the men in country music can release the ABCs and whatever trash they like and radio will keep giving them number ones. Carrie and other females are scrutinized on a case by case basis per song- and the judges are backward old guard pricks.

Even Kelsea is struggling on radio this era whereas she got number 1s for her debut album. I guess radio is getting even worse towards women instead of better. So much for Salad Gate. No one cares. Things are getting worse- even for Carrie.
Oh PLEASE do not compare Carrie to KB. Every single one of KB's #1 singles was bought and paid for by her label. Every one of her singles were on the charts for weeks and weeks on end.

I really can't believe CP didn't chart higher.
If I worked on a record label and got an artist like Carrie, I'd do everything possible to get her to the top. However, I'm not sure they didn't. Maybe CP didn't have a slot on today's country's chart.
Hopefully, single #2 will do better.

They better not release next single on wednesday too. I still don't understand why CP was released on wednesday.

Very much so. At least Sony pushed her singles to #1or 2.

I think that’s where Sony shone was getting her singles to #1 or 2 & knowing when to push & when to hold back & let the song take its course. It just seems like things are different for Carrie this time around.

That’s a good point! I still think by people preordering it is helping it rise. The fact it’s avIlable for preorders is great promo as you mentioned, too!

I agree. But, UMG is GREAT in stocking CDs for its artists in Walmart and Target. Sony Music is bad in stocking CDs on these store's shelves. I monitored all of Carrie's albums in all of these stores where the locations are around thirty minutes drive from where I live. Carrie's albums were always out and it took a long time for Sony to replenish and to re-stock Carrie's CDs. And the marketing and promotional activities of UMG for Cry Pretty album is outstanding so far. And they are going to rollout a BIG PROMOTIONAL PUSH.

I think what happened here is a combination of many things... it was like the "perfect storm" that made CP Carrie's lowest peaking radio single. I think it's fair to say the song debuted fantastically (ACM performance, #1 on Digital Songs) but then quickly died out. It remained below 100 on iTunes and was no where to be found on the streaming songs charts. I don't think it connected with the general public like a real hit. However, A TON of songs that don't sell/stream well hit #1 on radio... and they're all from male artists. Sadly, I think CP was "too female" for country radio programmers, which is a shame and makes no sense at all. I really thought UMG would get this to #1 up until a few weeks ago when Luke shot past her. So I blame country radio, UMG, and the song itself (melodically, it lacks for me despite the great vocals). So again, a perfect storm of factors... EXCITED FOR LOVE WINS THOUGH!

I think there are so many factors that went into CP being her lowest peaking radio single .The song started out great by debuting well with the ACMs performance & the #1 on the Digital songs chart but after that,it just seemed to die out really quickly & lost its momentum really quickly.I talked to a lot of people on social media & they seemed to have a really hard time connecting with the song.I had a hard time connecting as well & I normally love all of Carrie’s songs. This one just didn’t seem to do it for me.I think a lot of radio programmers were just taken aback & shocked by the song because it lacks a melody which is how most people remember the song & it was unconventional in the song length & lyrical content which was clearly female focused. No guy is going to listen to a song like CP & cry because it’s still a stigma that guys just don’t show their emotions that much.Sorry, but I think CP was too female for a lot of male programmers because the songs content was clearly female focused just with the mention of mascara running & if that isn’t female focused, then I don’t know what is.I just don’t know why you would even say that wasn’t a factor when it probably was one of the factors that led to its struggle on the charts.CP just wasn’t conventional & I think that’s why radio programmers were so shocked that it wasn’t like her past singles. They probably had no idea if it would fit in with their playlists or not or if anyone would even listen to it.Country radio hasn’t always been kind to females & it just seems worse than ever for them,UMG just didn’t push the song hard enough like they should’ve & like I said, the song lacks a melody that people will remember long after the song is done playing. But I truly am excited for Love Wins because it seems like it’s almost destined to be a smash for Carrie!!

For some reason it seems to be UMG's go to release day. Every single, or almost every single, with a iHeart Radio deal is released on a Wednesday from UMG. Don't know why they care to do that so much.

So you think most people that aren’t diehard Carrie fans won’t be turned off by all of the glitter tears that’s being used to market the album & this era? This is just my opinion, but I have a feeling most people will take one look at the album & the glitter tears & decide not to buy it because of that cover alone.Sorry, but that isn’t what I would call outstanding marketing.I’m trying to look past all of that & just focus on the music after hearing how good it is but it’s not easy if most can’t see past any of the glitter tears& glitter in general. Her diehards won’t care about that marketing, but most of the general public might if they’re just casual Carrie fans. This may not be true for everyone, but I have a feeling that the general public may not like that whole aspect of the marketing for this album so much. But they do seem to be rolling out a huge promotional push to really get the album & Carrie’s name out there. That’s the part they seem to be doing really well on for me.I’m still not crazy about the glitter tears aesthetic, but I’ll try to look past that & focus on the quality of the new music which seems to be shaping up to be her best music yet.

Stocking shelves is a moot issue, now. Target and Walmart will continue to sell cds but will restock on an as needed basis (no more big shipments to count as sales for certifications).

I never had a problem getting Carrie cds at any time from Best Buy, Target or Walmart. I just had to ask and they would go in the back and bring them out.

You're right. UMG thought of the best way to turn off fans. They chose glitter tears to purposefully make sure that people wouldn't buy the album. Just like they tanked the first single. UMG is trying to sink her.

In all seriousness, do you really think that an album cover will turn people away from the music? Has this actually ever happened? If you're not thrilled by glitter tears that's fine, but that honestly can't effect how you look at the music. And if people who enjoy Carrie's music, won't listen because of the cover, that's just plain weird.

Just out of curiosity, why do you all believe UMG pushed Luke over CP? Isn’t it possible that his “perfect for summer” summer jam had natural momentum since it was released and didn’t really need any assistance on the charts from UMG at all? Can UMG tell radio to stop spinning a song that they weren’t even really pushing? Or is everyone just trying to accuse UMG in any which way they can?

No, people will not go to the store to buy Carrie's album and see that cover and think "nope, not buying that. Even though I like her music, the cover makes me not want to buy it". Not even regular old fans - they still like the music. Even if someone does not like her cover, that does not change the music that is inside the cover. People are buying the album for the music not the cover.

I think it was that it didn't really need any help. Radio wanted to play it. The only thing UMG could have done related to Luke and Carrie was hold Luke back.

I believe Luke is their money maker now and also have been with them longer. Hopefully Carrie will be right up there with him but we will have to see.
