BREAKING NEWS: Osama bin Laden killed

I too am offended by the bolded statements by President Obama, especially the one about being united as an America family by placing it ABOVE one's belief. President Obama could have left it as America to stay united against terrorists. But don't bring in the part about no matter what god you believe in.

On a very serious note, has anyone read the whole Q'uran and understand its tenets? or researched what the devout Islam faithful really believe as based on the Q'uran? A really sad fact is that Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world in large part because one is BORN into Islam... rather than by free will. Many Muslims don't even know in depth what their religion is and about the god Allah. Many women would be extremely turned off if they researched this and find out what is their place in heaven after they physically die.

I don't understand how one can be offended by the statements that Barack Obama made. They were absolutely spot on. We, as people, need to make sure that we don't associate all Muslim people with terrorism and Osama bin Laden. He was not the Muslim leader. He was the leader of an extremely small fraction of Muslim people, who practiced violent extremism. Hist beliefs and actions are not those of the vast majority of Muslim people.

I also think it's completely wrong to attack someone else's religion like that. Would you like it if someone who was of a different religion decided to attack the Bible and its teachings?

I hope we can have a civil discussion about this, I don't want this thread to be closed but I just felt the need to respond.

I am offened by your statements! I am not going to say anything disrespectful to you because I don't want to be banned from thi site, but your comment is very disrespectful! Have you read the Qu'ran? HOW DARE YOU ASSUME THAT MANY MUSLIMS DON'T KNOW WHAT THEIR RELIGION IS? ALSO WHAT IS THE WOMEN PLACE AFTER THEY DIE? KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT!

"Bin Laden was not a Muslim leader, he was a mass murderer of Muslims."

As a devoted MUSLIM, I couldn't agree more on this statement! Bin Laden fasley used his religion for his wrong doing, HE MADE THE MUSLIM PEOPLE LOOK BAD! DON'T DISRESPECT MUSLIMS BECAUSE OF THE ACTION OF ONE IDIOT!!!!

That was not my quote... That being said no one is disrespecting Muslins, but there is a "Radical Element" that has hijacked Islam. My point was simply we do not need to keep reminding American's everytime a "Radical in the name of Islam" commits horrific crimes how most Muslins don't. I think we "get it" after being told each and every time there is an attack. That is what I am offended by...the lack of faith in the American people.

^Well, it's hard to assume that most Americans get it when you see Bill O'Reilly on TV giving the blanket statement that "Muslims attacked us on 9/11." And would you want American kids to be growing up around the language that "Muslims did this" or "Muslims did that?" Even if the person speaking knows that most Muslims don't do this, and it's just a small fraction of radicalists, children dont' know. They hear statements like that and they'll believe that all Muslims are terrorists.

Really? have you talked with every single Muslim? I'm sure you know them all.

No wonder we have problems in communication. O'Reilly corrected his 1 (one) comment with a statement that he throught everyone would understand he was talking about the radicals that attacked us. I guess you missed his correction...

It doesn't matter if he sent out a statement afterwards. If you look at the context in which he made those statements, they were talking about the building of the mosque in Manahttan. They were talking about a center for Muslims (just Muslims, not radical Muslims) and he responded with "Muslims killed us on 9/11." They weren't talking about radical Muslims--they were clearly talking about Muslims in general. There's a difference, there.

And radical Christians have been killing in the name of Christ for thousands of years. Does that mean that every one of us Christians should be viewed as potential terrorists?

Last night I had a whole hope for America and humankind. That's gone already. We're screwed, because people are idiots.

please be careful when you decide to quote others or and do a multiple quote. deleting or adding a square bracket ("[" or "]") by mistake can change things a lot.

That was the statement he corrected. Yes, it was the building of the mosque in Manhattan. According to the transcript he felt (as did thousands - including victims families) that the mosque was to be built to close to ground zero. One of his reasons was that thousands of people had lost their lives and the building still was finding remains, and that no mosque should be built there since the Radicals had hijacked the religion and killed thousands of people in the name of Islam on 9/11.

But, that is a completely different debate...

Yeah, I'm not trying to debate on the issue of the mosque. You originally said that we should not have to distinguish between a Muslim and a radical Muslim, and the incident with Bill O'Reilly is one example of why we do need to differentiate. It got people so up in arms, well then obviously there's a need to differentiate so that that does not happen. You just said "...the Radicals had hijacked and killed thousands of people..." not "Muslims had hijacked." It's a means of clarification, and in such a delicate religious climate, clarity can't be a bad thing.

Clarity is important. That being said, I think my orginal point was I think the America people do understand the difference. Perhaps I'm just more optimistic about what people understand than some.

Perhaps you are, because I think there are many people who don't make the distinction, and who believe that Muslims are all bad. Case in point is that man who decided to burn the Qu'ran. One thing I'll agree with you on is that I don't believe that it is anywhere close to the majority of Americans who believe this--I do think that Americans have more sense and ration than that, on the whole. However, there is a fraction of people who do believe that Muslims are dangerous. There have been studies that have shown that a lot of Americans are not comfortable if they are on the same flight as someone who is wearing the Islamic headdress. There is obviously something beneath the surface there that should be acknowledged. To state these things in general terms would be perpetuating the stereotype that Muslims are dangerous.

It's not everyone that I disagree with. In fact I think most in here are just fine. It's just some of the things I've seen and heard said already today other places.

Like the ridiculous "I want to see pictures or none of this happened." Or people who want to use it to further their political agenda. There's just things going on that make me very worried about the future of our country. A lot of people don't trust the government AT ALL(not completely a bad thing, except this means that even when something good IS done, they'll blow it off as something bad because "that's what they do"), and the ones that do seem to be extremists on either side of the political spectrum. There's just too much useless arguing going on throughout the country in the last few years that we all need to learn to set aside for the greater good. Idiots was probably the wrong word to use, but there was nothing else I could think of at that time.

Remember one thing that makes us great is our 2 party government. Were not supose to agree on everything thats what elections are for. Conservatives and Liberals trying to convince the independants and Moderates there ideas are the best. It swings back and forth because Americans are smart they know that the power is with the people and not Government!!! And both parties need a kick in the ass every now and then!!! Right now i think Obamas policies are very bad for the Country but he is my President so when it comes to Killing Bin Laden i say WAY TO GO MR PRESIDENT THAT TOOK SOME BALLS AND I CONGRADULATE YOU....
