[Dec 5] The Sound of Music Live! (Official Discussion Thread)

Honestly, I doubt some of those critical of that even cared if it was possible or not possible back then - all they saw is that it did not happen in the original Sound of Music movie so that made it bad regardless - as if every single other thing in the movie was historically and factually based.

agree! The ignorance among some on twitter was scary. PEople were actually yelling and swearing at Carrie because they thought she messed up the Order of the songs, and forgot to do the puppet scene, etc. lol

Not only did they not know or care about the difference in the Broadway version, but they blamed Carrie for the changes as if it was a mistake she made on live tv-- rather then a planned production. lol

They think the movie with Julie Andrews was the BIBLE and hate Carrie for messing with it! Ridiculous people.

Too bad Julie Andrews's fans cannot conduct themselves with the class and dignity she displays. IF I were Julie, I would be embarrassed by my own fans right now for the vulgarity, hate, and death threats they sent Carrie. Unreal.

If Ann Hathaway or any other actress would have played Maria they would have gotten hate also. However, I really doubt very much if any actress would have taken the role as they knew they would be compared to Julie and come up short all around. Carrie did a fantastic job and I am very proud of her---and if my Grandmother (who used to be a vocal coach in NY) approved and thought Carrie did a great job in both acting and singing---then I am satisfied that Carrie did great. My Grandmother is very picky on vocals.

Agree- they would have hated on Anne's vocals if she took the part, while they would have loved her acting. Carrie is a much better singer, and Anne is a better actor. so pick your poison and stop complaining haters.

Watch out because she comes ahead full force. She takes risks. Look at how they pay off. Her acting is getting better and better. I never though Id say this, because Carrie had beautiful vocals before doing Sound of Music. You can tell the training for Sound of Music has impact on her singing. She sounds so stunning. Carrie is impeccable artists. Of course a great gal to. Carrie is more interesting to me than anybody else in Hollywood and Nashville. She is one of the few people, I fell I can relate to for personality. I like that she does not have a specific image. If you know what I'm talking about lol Carrie is the best.

I concur 100%, Carrie is the best. She is an epitome of class. That is why we love her. Look at what is happening in show business nowadays, too much body exposure, too much drama, auto-tune voice. Carrie is one unique star. She will shine forever.

Video of a TV Interview with Laura Benanti. The part where Carrie is mentioned starts at about 1:40.

Laura Benanti on "Sound of Music" & New Album | NBC New York

She is very nice and I like the nice words about carrie. She is good and did well in SOM. Honestly, i did not know her before. So they should be thankful to Carrie for making them a household name now. I do not live in NY so i don't get to see the NY broadway show. But I love theater and watch broadway shows in California. Laura I think plays theater in NY. I also did not know Audra until the SOM.

Anne Hathaway will not be able to sing live.

For anyone who has watched the SOM Live dvd did they remove the hissing sound in the background of the live production?

My tv never did suffer with a hiss, so that was always lost on me.

It sounded beautiful for me.

Maybe on a certain level cause I knew it was live and "in house" I was expecting a certain amount of white noice.

Maybe there was no hiss because you were not looking for it or any other flaws and just enjoyed the show. When it comes to Carrie, her personality just blurs away any "road bumps" in her performances. She truly is an artist that I can get lost in time and just escape. For this we are blessed and noone can ever take that away from us.

Merry Christmas CU Fans.

I agree!!!

I called my two uncles and my aunt in San Diego, Los Angeles, and Long Beach, California yesterday telling them that I already mailed yesterday my "soundtrack and DVD" COMBO as my Christmas GIFTS to them. I was surprised that they can REMEMBER the names of "Audra McDonald", "Laura Benanti", and "Stephen Moyer". They are household names, NOW. They are UNKNOWN to them before "December 5, 2013 showing of The Sound of Music LIVE". They do not like theater and NEVER watch it before LIKE ME. I TOLD THEM TO WATCH IT, THOUGH. They ALL ENJOYED watching it.

My TV didn't have the hiss either - I noticed it right away watching the videos on youtube and thought wow that is noticeable and I was glad I didn't hear it.
