Can someone explain why country radio doesn’t play/ like female musicians.

Because country radio is made up of 90% rich, old white guys who think a woman's place is in the kitchen. And it's no coincidence that the few females who are still somewhat successful on country radio, Queen Carrie included, have seen their results diminish since 45* got "elected" president. (In fact, the very week 45*'s inauguration drew a crowd half the size of Obama's, Blake Shelton passed Dirty Laundry and blocked our queen from hitting #1 in Billboard Magazine with a song about a guy and "his girl" that no one remembered two weeks later.) Radio thinks it no longer has to play women or POC now that one of "their guys" is back in charge. The white male patriarchy is stronger than ever since an admitted sexual predator became (under shady circumstances) president of the United States. Time to #Resist!

Why are politics in this thread? Ew

Because, unfortunately, politics affects everything these days, all the way down to the music that is played on the radio. Remember when The Dixie Chicks were banned from country radio for expressing disapproval of President Bush?

That being said, CP will be the little engine that could, defying all the odds to make the top 5, and possibly #1.

So is no7 as high as we go? Or will UMG push another week?

i was looking at the songs above Carrie and they are all total rubbish. Honestly a song about a Hotel key above CP? Really? What a joke.

It is unfortunate, but very true. I won't say where or what station but our local number one station not only plays females less since '45' but now they sit and talk politics on my music station. I don't listen to music to hear about him, politics or news to be quite honest with you. Ads are a must, but anything beyond that, NO. Play the damn music and lets get on with listening to it. You are unfortunately, correct. Politics (whether for him or against) has over taken almost every single conversation around us. It does apply here so long as we don't get into a like/hate discussion about '45'. I'm glad you felt comfortable enough to call this to attention because it needs to be. It's always been bad for women on radio, now it is far worse on all 3 of our locals.

I will never understand how a pair of tight pants, a hat & a crappy song justify as talent. 5 out of the 7 songs are indeed utter crap. One is listenable & one is … well... geared for the youngins. Men need to step up big time lyrically for me to take them seriously.

STOP with the political talk.If you want to discuss your political theories start a thread but don't talk about them here

The last thing anyone wants to do is incite a political debate here. Some of us just feel that, when a song about getting a sunburn, a song about a hotel key, and a song about "being hooked" whatever that even means, are easily getting more spins at radio than songs with real depth and substance like CP or Jennifer Nettles' Babe, it's difficult to ignore gender and the larger socio-political context of the gender disparity at country radio.

Country radio PDs will tell you that "women don't test well," but the fact is when female voices are so scarce on country radio and listeners are so used to hearing generic, catchy, up-tempo tunes that provide easy background noise and don't require them to think deeply about lyrics or message, it's inevitable that listeners are going to take more conditioning to get used to hearing strong female voices and songs with deep messages. Radio stations should take a chance on females' songs and give them time to grow on listeners rather than being so predisposed to keep as few women as possible on their playlists.

We live in a world of instant gratification. Consumers want quick, cheap, easy pleasure, like a 2-and-a-half-minute-long song like "Hooked" that makes for "easy listening" rather than a song that requires more energy and exertion of brain power but leads to a greater reward in the long-run like "Cry Pretty." Peripheral-route processing always wins over central-route processing on radio.

Could Love Wins be a new title for the song previously mentioned in the thread called Money, Love, and Happiness?

Do we know if they have the same writers? If so, you may be onto something.

One thing that strikes me is that "money" (although we pretty well all need it!) doesn't seem to fit all that naturally into the theme of a song about universal love. Perhaps that led them to change the title - or maybe they are just not the same song at all!

Love Wins is written by Carrie, Brett James and David Garcia. Can't find who wrote ML&H but strange that we hear news about a song by this title featuring Niall Horan as a rumored next single and suddenly it's not even on the album. Also a possibility the song wasn't finished in time and may appear on Niall's next album or a deluxe version of CP at some point.

There is still "MAX Push" on the week August 26th - September 1st. After that, it will be a guessing game. We will see if Carrie can beat the odd of favoritism for male country artists.

I think that was fake. It created buzz though.
