It's just the make-up, the contour. I don't think they do either
I actually do not like it when they enhance with makeup or photoshop lips, especially Carrie's. Lately it seems these are way over accentuated and look very fake.
It must be makeup, because these are caps from Drinking Alone video and when they show Carrie the performer, the lips are big. But when they show Carrie in the booth, they do not look "enhanced":

And here she is, in the booth, with toned down make up - in my opinion - is perfect!
..and just simply exquisite!
Please stop with the over drawn lips!

Visually: Gorgeous, total 10/10 everything looked great, she looked smashing!
Storyline/Concept: Pretty bland and boring to be honest...
I mean at least it looks great? Just wish there was more too it, was kind of like a done-up tour video if I had to be honest...

They have been that way since her injury -- covering the scar. Remember -- 50 stitches in her lips.

Isn't it a positive thing that the men are wishing they looked more natural? I mean, I agree with men shouldn't have a say on what women want to do, but like, it's better than the opposite where men want more makeup and more lips done etc? Not arguing, just it's progress to want the natural look for men haha!

This is the best music video from the cry pretty era but definitely not my favourite.
The last few videos directed by Randee St. Nicholas were quite bad. I have no idea why Carrie is still working with her.
Carrie’s team needs to find new directors to bring in fresh takes and creatives. A good video can really help a song on the streaming platform and radio.

(Carrie could still have sang, but maybe showed both her and the stranger drinking alone... then do flashbacks to what caused their sorrow, etc.)

Lady Antebellum's "Ocean" is the only other one I've seen. Their name and then the song title. Maybe they are trying to make them look more like movies.

Southbound also opened with a title screen. I like the concept - it makes it seem like a movie trailer.
Exactly. It has a very retro feel to it, like a jazz club/bar set in the 1920s. Christina Aguilera did a 20s 30s & 40s throwback album back in 2006 and her videos were inspired by the films from back then as well. Title of the song at the start of the video and all.
