Carrie Underwood 7- Denim and Rhinestones

I’m not looking to go into anything, it’s not worth it.
she won 6 Carrie won 8….

But I don’t care to be honest…….
actually, if you think, she's won more Grammys in a shorter period of time than carrie (her career is 7 years younger than carrie's). She won 4 in a single day, including aoty.
but anyway... I was just trynna point out that her outspoken lyrics and persona may have led her to more critical success..... and also commercial? since she's been drawing more stream numbers than any country girls. who knows.

Bingo I don’t care her voice. And I dont care for her as a person either. But the Country purists love her Albums.. I’m fine with it….

I wouldn't say country purists? cause she's won more Grammys (all-genre) than country-specific awards, like cmas (gross).
we may not like her, but we can't deny that she's been the most successful country woman (all things considered) of the past 4 years.

maybe (maybe!!) if carrie broke free of the conservative country bubble, she would be more embraced by the current general public and, therefore, would be drawing bigger numbers than the abysmal ones she just did.

here we go again LOL I almost didn't get on here, and I wish I hadn't now that i'm reading this. BTW how in the world is Denim playing it safe? It would do terrible on country radio. I'm not sure some people on here actually listen to country radio tbh. Off to celebrate. Hope some of y'all jump in a cold pool to cool off. Happy 4th everyone.

lmaaaaooooo! she does always play safe, its like she too afraid to front them country conservatives.
out of 30 singles and 17 years in the game, I think she only fronted them with SITW, CP and LW as singles. looooool
and mind you, they're one of her best songs.

I wish she would step up and speak her mind more often, like Kacey etc

but this conservative country sh!t has gotten to her mind too hardly.
Please stop trying to offend conservatives. Nobody is attacking liberals. Maybe Carrie doesn't get political like Kacey because she knows she'd get sh!t for it, but maybe it wouldn't be from the side you think. But I like that Carrie doesn't get that way because entertainers shouldn't push their beliefs on anyone, because they are no more informed or important than anyone else, despite what many of them think.

Denim - I actually do not think it will be released. It would be a risky move, imo. An opening track left to the winds? Hello, RR....

VH - reminds me a lot of DL. I think it might close out the era too.

GS - will it be the CB of the Storyteller era (ie biggest hit?)

4 HMH - second single of the era, much like Heartbeat.....performing to similar radio success

5. BURN - much like SMOKE Break, it too will be a single, but not be appreciated for the lyrical gem that it is

6. CA - be performed on tour like CCA, and many will cry out for it to be a single, yet inexplicably it will not.
Don't think that GS will be the biggest hit from the era. It kind of gives me Smoke Break vibes as something that radio enjoys spinning because of good testing, but doesn't really stand the test of time with consistent streaming.

I really don't see CA getting paid the dust honestly though, given how well it's connecting. Especially since the only reason CCA wasn't a single even though the fans demanded it was due to the label she's no longer with, as she stated in a meet in greet in Vegas.

If the fans cry out for CA, she'll most likely oblige. That's what happened last era with Drinking Alone, she said it was the one that fans were asking for.

lmao, where Kacey is at? selling the same amount as Carrie. So yo point? Actually, she's been more streamed than Carrie. Yo point?
Plus, she's been getting more great reviews and winning more Grammys for being more outspoken and vocal than Carrie. So, who wins in this twisted game?

Don't you think I love Kacey, coz I don't. I don't like her voice and her hillbilly style. But numbers don't lie. Her outspoken persona has led her to be top 2 for most consumed female country artist. Carrie hasn't been able to pull that, as much as I hate to admit that.
False, she is popular right now due to the hype she got from winning album of the year in 2018 at the Grammys. This introduced her to fans that never heard of her. It's not proportional to compare someone's first release after their hype to someone who's been in the business for 17 years. Carrie was much larger when she was at the peak of her career (where Kacey is now.)

Kacey has always spoken her mind, but prior to the Golden Hour hype she was only moderately popular. The Grammy win gave her exposure (since she had virtually none due to being blacklisted from radio.)

Are you forgetting what happened last August/September with Carrie? The whole world literally lost their marbles over her just liking a tweet. I couldn't blame her especially after that for feeling like she doesn't want to open up.

Carrie doesn't get political because her career would literally die off... Yes.

"Entertainers" are no different than you and I, however. They pay taxes. They live in the US. They get to have a well informed opinion. Suddenly because they have followers means they're pushing the beliefs onto others? No. Just because they're a celeb doesn't mean they can't have an opinion nor does it mean they believe such opinion overrules any of ours. How weird of a statement.

I merely exists as a gay person in this country and yet we have people saying the same thing to me. I'm pushing myself onto others because I'm gay. Kids can't wear rainbows in school in Florida because of current laws. Teachers are being fired for being gay. Not because they suck at their job. We have gay fear laws in this country that allow people to beat gay people if they fear their lives.

Enough with that anti entertainer bs... I'm so sick of singling out people for being this or that. Especially when they don't have any bigoted opinions. This is more than just being "political". This is also about recognizing that your fanbase isn't just white people.

That tweet was more than just a tweet. It was tweeted by a WELL KNOWN racist, homophobe, sexist, xenophobe, etc... It meant a lot in the way that the tweet was intended. You don't just tweet about how kids are suffering because of a mask all while ignoring kids getting shot up in class or being part of the school to prison pipeline. That whole sh!tshow meant a lot to fans like me.

Yea, I’m fine with her mostly staying non-political, because I somehow doubt I’d like her views on certain topics.

All I know is that Carrie has so much love in her heart and spreads it everywhere she goes. She’s a great human and does a lot of good. That has to be enough.

Agree. Doesn’t matter how she votes, we know she loves her fan base and doesn’t seem to judge others.

Feel like they would rather their fans formulate an opinion of their own rather than using their platform to try to get their fans to agree with them.

Carrie takes the same route Dolly did, she doesn’t touch politics, that’s her choice. Therefore, nobody knows where she stands on every single thing.

I referred to the tweet as “just a tweet” because she liked it. Nobody knows what part of the video that was in the tweet that she agreed with or what she didn’t, but people sure as heck came out of the woodworks throwing all types of labels her way like she wrote some type of essay expressing all her political views, when all that really happened was she liked a tweet…

So many “Carrie fans” came out of the woodworks that day talking about how she just lost a fan, but I feel like her real fans have see her heart and know the love she has for people, and even if they didn’t agree with the tweet gave her the benefit of the doubt.

This will be my first/last post regarding politics as that’s not what this thread was intended for.

“No other country has…” such American propaganda - please don’t insult the international fans like that! I can say as a Canadian fan, I feel very “free”.

for pete's sake can't even have a holiday without you all having a meltdown.

stop with the political talk in this thread. it does not belong. that means all of it. no snide remarks made at conservatives or liberals.

Carrie can damn well do what she wants and apparently what she wants is to keep her political opinions to herself.

Lurking and watching this thread has truly been an interesting experience. Hopefully at some point I'll be able to post a more detailed review but wanted to post some "quick " thoughts.
First I knew that Ghost Story would be one of those songs that grow on you because that is exactly what it did for me. Its production is a mix of the first couple tracks of BA and Backsliding. The more you listen to it, the more you hear the different layers.
I will say that when I listened to the preview tracks I was apprehensive for the album. DR I loved for a minute and then not so much. CA I thought was loud for parts that didn't have to be loud. She Don't Know I think is a perfect mix of what an artistic, story and radio friendly song could be. It gave me Dirty Laundry vibes combined with Dolly Parton. Now I basically scream Crazy Angels as I look for parking in Queens and once again the production the more you hear the more you get used to the loudness and hear other layers to it. DR is also the perfect opening track. I stole don't want it as a single but its just so breezy and does represent the album.

Speaking of the album it is a lot more cohesive than I thought it was going to be. There is a really good flow to it even though the songs are very diverse.
Songs that I want for singles are:
CA, VH and Burn..... and Garden
Songs that I cant stop singing in addition to the songs that I want to my single choices are Hate My Hate and Poor Everybody Else, the latter needs to be the concert opener. Please and thank you
Also I can't get WW out of my head although its not my favorite.
Garden is just perfect lyrically and deserves at the very least its own lyric video.

Sorry my thoughts are all over the place. I can't post as often as I want to and this quick post became a lot longer than I wanted it too. More thoughts later maybe...

Carrie Underwood became known to the general public through the American Idol program, which she won in 2005. A year later the big country hits “Jesus Take The Wheel” and “Before He Cheats” were released. She continued to score number 1 hits in the US country charts through roughly 2016. From that year on, not a single song can be found in the top 10. Can she turn that tide again with this album?

“Denim & Rhinestones” is already her ninth album and to get straight to the point. The lead single “Ghost Story” reached the top position on Billboard’s country digital chart. Yet it also has to get off the heart as is also the case with this album. Many country purists find today’s ‘country’ music not even remotely resembling that of yesteryear. Somehow they do have a point. This “Denim & Rhinestones” also sounds more like a pop album with country influences, than a country-pop album. It’s a thin line, but it’s mainly the crack in Underwood’s voice that gives every song that country feel.

A touch of rock can also be found on the record. Take for example the fine “Crazy Angels”. Incredibly catchy, the chorus will make you sing along. The electric guitar gives some extra spice to the shortest track on this new album. The song may be short, but it is also one of the highlights. That same guitar plays a leading role in the very poppy and sweet “Faster”. The rest of the song almost makes the enamel on your teeth jump, but then out of nowhere, there is a very nice solo, which does reflect the feeling of the song in a much less juicy way.

Underwood herself says of “Denim & Rhinestones”: ‘We cover a lot of ground on this album. We have a lot of songs that have a bit of a “throwback” feel, but they sound super fresh. I grew up listening to so many different kinds of music and that is extremely evident in this body of work. These are musical influences that are all in me and working their way out, and I just decided this time not to get in their way.I think this whole album ended up being a big reflection of me as a person and as an artist.’

I can’t say whether this is a real country album. A pop album with country influences seems to be a better name for this entertaining “Denim & Rhinestones”. For the country purists, this is way too much pop, but those who don’t mind (too much) get a nice picture of fewer than 40 minutes. It’s so over and maybe that’s why it’s so entertaining? Pleasant vibes guaranteed!

I love the line "Yeah this back home drive's got me reflectin'...."

Side note did not know Arista prevented CCA from being a single. I am all FOR her changing to Universal now!
