FIFTH single from BA - speculation thread

Freakin Miranda gets a 5th single every single time- yet Carrie outsells her 2-1. So no, you cannot justify or defend this decision as a business decision because Carrie's album sales slowed down. Miranda's slowed down to a crawl months ago- and Carrie outsells her in every aspect, downloads, albums, etc- yet Carrie gets cut off for both PO and BA, while Miranda gets 5 singles every time. Not right- especially since she has the Keith duet too. There is something very wrong with Sony Nashville right now- ever since Joe left- and Overton took over. It is not right how Carrie is screwed every time. And no- I do not agree with the theory that Carrie wanted the era to end. She always wants as many singles as possible to go to radio. Kelly Clarkson herself said the labels pick the singles - as well as how many you get. Artists have input- that is all. Carrie said as much once or twice too. She has said the label picks the singles, with me input from her. I am so sick of Miranda getting special treatment. So unfair!

I dont understand either! I would like that they let us (fans) vote for a fifth single in some poll or something!

Buck up everyone!! Just think -- at least 18 months to get our carpal tunnel well before we have to start requesting again. Seriously, I'm so depressed about this -- more so because of the casual way it was "announced." I feel cheated. Unless adding another #1 is the only reason her music is released there is no excuse for not releasing a 5th single. No promotion would be necessary. A CMA performance of WAW could be used as the video, song would sell like crazy on iTunes, and the CMA wannabes would feel like fools after she performed a country song as only Carrie can.

Hate to think of the empty months ahead. Last time we had Remind Me to vote and root for. Hope Willie releases AOMM. Otherwise, will be a long, boring winter, spring, summer, and fall on the radio.

Well, I dont think WAW can sell well at all to be honest (is too country and not catchy), but I agree with all the other things you wrote!

I honestly think 'Wine After Whiskey' as a single would only hurt her reputation as an artist. Surely it would have gone Top 3 if not Top 2, be another gold single for her, and move perhaps 100-200k copies of Blown Away. But it will reinforce her image as the powerhouse vocalist who always sings only big ballads (ie Martina McBride) and would not be good for future success. The same goes to 'Good In Goodbye'.

The only songs that I think could avoid that are 'Cupid's Got A Shotgun' (which probably will not sell particularly well but will make her sound countrier) and 'Do You Think About Me'. The problem is DYTAM and CGAS both don't sound like era-ending singles. DYTAM should've been released before 'Two Black Cadillacs', then CGAS before 'See You Again', and this era would've been perfect. If you insist on GIG/WAW, perhaps throw in a different song after SYA, something like 'One Way Ticket', then release that ballad.

Though of course this all are very idealistic. Chances are that they could all fail to go number one, or even Top 2. May barely reach gold, etc especially with DYTAM (mellow country ballads don't tend to perform very well on charts regardless of the singer(s) behind), and I kind of understand why they would not want to risk another single with both TBC and SYA barely making it to number one. But with something like CGAS they could very well have made a short radio edit with it featuring vocals from Brad Paisley, who is flopping right now so would have been the perfect timing.

^ yep Miranda has yet another duet coming up after the Keith Urban one- this time with Dustin Moore. She also has one on the Willie cd like Carrie. I guess no on wants to duet with poor Carrie anymore as they know Miranda is the real ticket to award show love, not Carrie. (sad)

It's all male ego -- most are intimidated by Carrie and should be -- her beautiful voice would overpower most of them. I'm so glad I don't have to support all of that twang -- she needs a duet with Josh Groban. I think a "ghost" duet with Eddie Arnold and Carrie would be brilliant.

I would love a Josh Groban or Michael Buble duet. :)

Sometimes I feel we argue one day for a bigger role for women in Mainstream Country, and complain the next day when examples of it occur, lol
Carrie can't carry this burden alone (smiley)

I would agree though that her visibility within the format would increase if she undertook more duet work, both with established stars and with newcomers and rising artists.
I don't share the implication that she probably doesn't do more of this because she's snubbed, or not asked - I think it's likely that many artists would fall down the stairs in their rush to get her on their album, or join her on stage if they could.

Carrie is a shy person, and probably feels more at ease with people she knows, such as Brad Paisley and Vince Gill.
Willie Nelson is a duet specialist, and a very open-minded and receptive person to work with.

But Carrie doesn't strike me as seeking only "Diva" opportunities. She's a professional who can adapt her input to the atmosphere and needs of the occasion. This example, from the 2011 riverboat radio promotion, shows her supporting a label mate in a harmony role:

Ha ha ha, the other problem with someone like Carrie on your project is; I can't look at anything else but her the minute she walks on the stage.

Not great for the solo artist.

Just thinking out loud but Carrie could intimidate some artists.

IMHO it takes a strong and confident artist to duet with Carrie one who is willing to embrace Carrie going full throttle. I felt Brad was willing to do that on Remind Me and that was one of the keys to its sucess.

So I have had time to get over the lose of the BA era.

And I am just learning about Carries label deciding to use their resources instead to promote both Mirandas AKOK while financially promoting her duet with Keith at the same time.

I try to keep my feelings related to Carrie, but when this tiype of thing happens and no one notices or cares except a few of us fans, it almost makes it a bigger issue for me.
Like I am somehow holding the torch for her equal rights or something.

I feel that way even on her won fansite where you would think it would blow up with such scandelous news, but instead is swept away and asked politely to stay quiet for Carries sake and for the sake of the posters here who don't wish to discuss it.

So it just starts to bubble up for me.

But alas, I just try to forget it, like we do here. Just appreciate what we do have with Carrie and her amazing talent and opportunities and "Don't Question" and "Don't Complain".

Its true that the things that are happening to her outside of country are great and amazing and we should be very proud and she is I am sure very happy about.

But try to imagine how proud and happy she would be if she had those ouside accomplishments and then came back to a family that embracing and assuring of her, and telling her what an amazing job she is doing and that they recognize her hard work and what she has come to represent to the whole family.

That would be nice.

But instead she will dress up to stand by and hand awards to family members who all vote for eachother. She will hold her head up and make it all look seamless and "friendly" and she will go home to her real family and do laundry.

It just feels like she is entitled to better.

I know its just me and a few of us crazy fans. But the respect of the family seems ultimately improtant to her. And so it becomes improtant to me even though I have never been someone to care anything about fake award shows.
this particular one represents the people she works so hard for. So it is hard for me to ignore.
But like I have said for 5 years running now. I will let it go. And I will find comfort in the outside industry who continues to have a growing respect for what Carrie does and what she has accomplished without bias.

Goodbye BA Era!! IT was Amazing!! And I look forward to Carries development as an artist on new projects.
(and I will secretly pray she does soemthing amazing like break herself free from the status quo that she has emersed herself in and do something completely NEW!!)

BLown Away..........!!!!!!
