I was just listening to the album in the car and the next single really needs to be one of the big 3. I think it will be too.

Normally, I would have said release RR as the next single. However, the Grammy awards happened.

I'm ready for Heartbeat to just go away. I do love the song and I love that Carrie loves the song, but I feel like every commercial opportunity they've taken with this single hasn't worked out. I'm really glad and surprised to see it at #4 on country mediabase and #6 on hot country songs, and I hope it goes to #1, but I'm ready to move on. The video only has less than 4 million views. I don't know what in the world happened with that. The single itself hasn't had huge sales (136,000 was the last count?) and they FINALLY did what I wanted them to do and let Sam sing it with her on stage (at the Grammys no less) and the performance was less than stellar, which really is a bummer.

Nope. Time to just move on and concentrate on the area where we can win - country music.

With that said, I think they need to release a really country song - straight up country music, something with a video that is going to snatch up CMT awards and have 7 million views and really put an UMPH in this whole era. I feel like Smoke Break kinda got the party started, then Heartbeat killed the buzz, and now we need an explosion with the tour in full force.

So, normally, RR. However, we need something with a faster pace.

Which brings us to CB or CCA. Now, I think the smart choice is CCA -- take the momentum that her live harmonica performances are getting in the press, and run with it. Killer video. Bring back sassy, murderous Carrie. Get people talking. I feel like the Grammys performance and losing the award puts us in a slump.

So, Caitlin2010 posted in last night's tour thread. She had a M&G with Carrie and posted the following:

I just got done meeting Carrie! I asked her "any idea what the next single might be?" in a playful way and she was like yes but it's a secret. I said secrets don't make friends and she laughed. She said she has to be careful not telling radio because they'll play it too early and then stop playing Heartbeat. Then she said "I will say that it's going to be an uptempo song." Yay!

Let's discuss. Uptempo to me means fast paced. RR obviously fits this category, but please, please please, don't let it be the next single. Not yet. What other songs on ST would we consider "uptempo". Mexico, for sure, but we know it won't be a single. Tracks that far down in an album are rarely singles and it isn't in the set list for the tour. Uptempo obviously rules out LINLYA, Chaser, Relapse, CDS, TGYTIA, and WINKIAW, at least to me, plus most of them aren't in the set list for the tour anyway. God forbid, I don't think CDS is uptempo. So, that leaves RR, DL, CB, and CCA in consideration. Would all of those be considered "uptempo"? I know none of them are slow tempo, but I probably would have categorized DL, CB, and CCA as mid-tempo. Do we think (hope) that Carrie might just label everything as slow or fast, lol?

and I think thats all Carrie meant. No real clue at all.We all knew it was between RR/DL/CB and CCA.
RR shows lack of imagination by the label as it is the safest bet by far ,so I hope they don't go that way.

Me either on RR! I guess when I think uptempo, I think of Carrie's sassy songs like UI/CC/GG/LN and the only one on the album that is like those is RR, which scares me a little. I'm still going to hold out hope for DL, although a surprise with CCA would be amazing too!

^^ I agree. I am really hoping that the label goes for DL! From the videos of the concerts it really seems like people are loving DL! Next I would go with CCA, then CB. Last of all the songs I would go with RR.

Dirty Laundry pleeeeeeaaaaasssseeee

Let's do what Katy fans did with Dark Horse and make it a single lol As soon as HB hits #1, we could start mass requesting DL :)

It's a no-brainer, DL will kill on the charts. Like I said before, it's the BHCs of Storyteller. I'm not saying it'll be a crossover smash like BHC, but it'll surprise a lot of people how great it'll do.

I need to know if DL will be the third single already! Sounds up tempo to me. And the lyric video is ready. Have to be DL! I need a smash single this era already!

I don't like the idea, but what if RR ends becoming the third single?! I think I couldn't stand it if that happens considering there's much better songs to be choosen as singles (DL and CCA)

It will be exactly like the promo songs were released: Heartbeat, then an uptempo song: Renegade Runaway and finally WINKIAW.

Dear Lord, please don't make that happen

I want DL but thinking about placement in concert maybe they'll go with CB.

Think about it.It has it's own stand alone spot, a spot where Carrie just chats before hand, saying hey & such, but could easily change that to proclaiming 'this is my next single'!!DL/CCA however are a combo and get the 'here's a couple songs on my cd' intro.

RR gets the reaction it does because its the opening song.

Disagree. RR gets the reaction it does because it is a great song! Lol I just don't get the hate here for RR.

With that said- I pray DL is next as I want everyone to be happy and I love DL too. I just cannot take anymore hate of the next single choice. I just want everyone to be happy. So I am team DL too.

I haven't read a single person on here say they hate RR. It's just that it's like other songs she's done in the past. This era so far has been about new directions for Carrie.RR is not that. DL/CCA are and to an extent CB.

I don't see any hate of RR either, IMO there are just several songs on Storyteller that are better songs and as you posted RR is just like other songs that have been released as singles in the past so CB, CCA & DL would all be better single choices in an era where she has shown she is headed in a different direction from what she has done in the past.

I don't hate RR either. I enjoy listening to it. Considering we only get 4 maybe 5 singles, I don't want it take place of better songs. CCA is not only one of the best songs on Storyteller. The way she performs it is needs to be seen outside of her concerts.

Really what they should have done is Renegade runaway instead of Smokebreak...

RR, HB, CB, DL, CCA... Now something is going to have to get the shaft.

But if Renegade Runaway is the next single I won't be too dissapointed.. It has so much energy live and would be a good contrast after heartbeat..
